Illinois Supreme Court to Vote on New Eviction Rule

New Rule open for Comment

The Rules Committee of the Illinois Supreme Court is having a hearing on June 24, 2020 for comments on a number of new proposed rules.  One of those rules affects eviction complaints.  Proposal 20-07 proposes a new Supreme Court rule that would require landlords in eviction complaints to comply with Section 2-606 of the Code of Civil Procedure which requires claims founded upon a “written instrument” to include a copy of the instrument attached to the pleading.

This would require landlords to attach their eviction notice and/or relevant lease provisions to their complaint when it is filed.

Landlords who would like to submit written comments on the proposed rule can do so on or before June 10, 2020 via email to “abowne at illinoiscourts.gov” (I don’t want bots to pick up that email address) or they can mail in comments to the Committee at this address:
